Bourne area rest stop closed - what a disgrace!

We take perhaps eight to ten daytrips to the Cape annually and stay up to a week sometimes. We were a little upset off season when we found the rest area on Route 25 to be closed during the Fall, Winter and Spring. Imagine our amazement yesterday when we pulled in at apx 1030PM to find the building with the restrooms and tourist information closed (just five days before the Fourth of July)! This is nothing short of an outrage! In the five or so minutes we were there, at least another half a dozen cars pulled in. I saw countless out of state cars on the Cape yesterday and I am sure many of them take this route. The state of Massachusetts should be ashamed of itself. Every year we drive to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and sometimes Quebec. There are always adequate rest stops, ecen in the off season. Massachusetts seemingly does not consider its visitors worthy of the same treatment as its northern neighbors.

Oh, there were disgusting portacabins! Welcome to Massachusetts!

Massachusetts doesn't even consider its RESIDENTS worthy of the same treatment!

budget cuts, I agree, are awful - perhaps the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce could put some pressure on the Legislature to open these back up?

I believe that the Chamber budget has been cut way back too.

Gotta be budget cuts...I called for a "free" vacation guide, but they don't mail those out any more.

I am outraged too. A potty when I want one and where I want one are my rights as an American (look it up).

This rest stop was open until 8 or 9:00 p.m. Has this changed?

I see. Is this the exit 1 rest stop? Too bad, it was really convenient. All the McDonalds off of 495 should expect a lot of Cape travelers to stop in and use their facilities.

It's not so bad for those of us who know the area, as we can find facilities elsewhre, but I am thinking of out of state tourists. Someone who takes 495 from New where it meets 95 to the Cape has only the one rest stop in Lowell from there to the one on Rt 6 in the Hyannis area. Out of staters who come up 95 and then across 195 to 25 are left with that awful facility on 195 which only has portapotties. What a welcome!

I just read the Boston.com article. I think local businesses and the Chambers of Commerce may have to come up with the cash to reopen this facility. When I think of the Massachusetts 6.25% meals tax and how much that likely raises on the entire Cape in a season, that only adds to the outrage.
