My 8 year old got to try kayaking at camp for about an hour this summer and really enjoyed it, which is great, but he now fancies himself an expert, which I promise you, he is not.
He wants to go kayaking next week on the Cape. My husband and I are game, but neither of us have ever done this before.
My son wants his own kayak and says we don't have to get any instruction at all, he'll teach us. Of course he will.
So, any suggestions for some place to go kayaking not too far from Chatham that might work well with a not particularly athletic, very, very beginner family whose experience could range from anything from throwing up our hands in exasperation after 20 minutes to loving it and being out there for a couple of hours? I'm thinking we need more quiet pond than, say, having to contend with even the mildest of currents or tides.
I have a folder from last summer's trip with some of those promotional cards and I see that there's Nauti Janes by the Wequasett Inn, Howie's Kayak's in West Dennis and Jack's in Wellfleet, but of course, there's no substitute for the voice of experience.
