Best Walkable Downtown Areas?

Which downtown areas in Cape Cod are great for walking around with nice shops? I am interested in learning which towns have great walkable areas for non-beach days, I am only familiar with Proviincetown and Hyannis, but I know there must be many others. Thank you!

If you're heading down from Provincetown:

1. Wellfleet

2. Orleans

3.Chatham

4.Harwichport

5.Hyannis

6.Sandwich

7.Falmouth

Someone else here will fill in what I've not included.

I'm biased but I think Chatham has one of the better walkable downtowns on Lower Cape...Harwichport is next best...I don't get to Orleans much but they seem more spread out...

Thanks! I was also wondering how you might rank them, from best to worst? Would you say: Provincetown - Chatham - Harwichport - Hyannis?

Provincetown is interesting and variable...lots of fun to walk the length of Commercial St. and back...many times.....great place for people watching.

Chatham...interesting, but small and once is enought...boring!

Don't know Orleans nor Harwichport.

Hyannis.....commercial...has malls and box stores...major shopping area for locals....

I think Waterbug has given great advice. If you aren't interested in spending the whole day driving, Chatham, Orleans & Harwich Port are your best bets.

Good question- I'm sure you will get lots of ideas- here is mine.

Falmouth has it for eclectic shops, little pocket parks with old fashioned streetlamps and benches and trendy restaurants www.falmouthvillageassociation.com

Chatham has lovely shops and a couple good watering holes- lot's of interesting architecture, too.

And Orleans is fun to walk around, as well albeit short and sweet ; but The Chocolate Sparrow give bonus points.

Ok my input:

Hyannis is tacky but has some nice shops and dining on Main St. Chatham is charming, small and cute and very Cape Cod begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlighting and great shops and dining. P Town is my fav very eclectic...these are the most walkable condensed areas.

Yea...Hyannis has Main St, esp towards the west end, which is kinda funky from what I've heard (but nothing compared to P-town!) but other than that, it's the "big city" for us in this area...

Haven't been to Falmouth enough to say...it's too far away for me!

Don't miss the Chatham Candy Manor! It's the sweetest place in town...

But we also have a lighthouse within walkable distance from our downtown!

Other towns don't have that...
