I am thinking about doing Cape Cod over the Thanksgiving holidays. Our family has gotten to widespread and big and we no longer have the "tradition" that we had for thirty years, that being said I'm thinking of starting my own tradition with my own family.
We have been to Cape Cod once before, during the first week of Aug. 2011 and we stayed in Dennis at the Cottage By the Pond (cottagebythepond.com) and we LOVED the HOUSE, we were not thrilled with the location. The best part of the location was the pond and Captain Frosty's. We had never been to the cape before and had thought things would be closer together and that the "towns" were actually going to be "towns" with shops and such like we are used to around here (from Gettysburg PA). However the only two towns we found that seemed to have places to walk/shop/eat were Hyannis and Provincetown. We spent our entire week exploring the cape from one side to the other trying to figure out where everything was and what everything was. Finding lighthouses was a fiasco, lol with the easiest being in Chatham.
THAT being said (and I am not trying to insult Cape Codders by saying your towns are not towns, they are just not what we expected) I am looking to find a vacation rental near a "town" lol. We went to Sundae School in Dennisport, and that was by motorcycle at night, but it seemed like that may have been a quaint little village/town. If we were to come over the Thanksgiving week, what would be the best town to stay in? We have a family with young children, so nightlife isn't what we are looking for, just something quaint and quiet with maybe a few shops/restaurants to explore. Or should we just stay in Hyannis?
