Cape cod day trip with 11 month old

My wife and I are travelling with our 11 month old daughter to Boston for a week, but want to make a day trip to Cape Cod during our stay. Our main objectives are to A.) find a beach that is easily accessible and that has relatively calm waters, and B.) find an area with good restaurants (preferably some seafood options that are reasonably priced.) Thanks for your input!

Try taking the fast ferry over to Provincetown. There are some beaches on the harbour in the town or use the shuttle. Tons of restaurants and shopping.

I'm assuming that you will not have a car so that is the best way to go.

Love Senior's idea. No driving, 2+ hour boat ride, LOTS of dining options, gentle beach..perfect..

dining ideas:

Go to Aqua Bar and buy seafood at Native Seafood in the mall and eat at Aquabar on the water. Baby sunscreen and hat totally necessary as little shade at the Aquabar.

Thanks for input. Any options you might suggest with car? Also any specific beaches to seek out?

If you have a car, the calmest, most toddler-friendly beaches are those found along the bay side of the Cape. Dennis & Brewster are very family friendly and there are lots of options for seafood all along Rt. 6A from clam shacks to nice sit-down places. Here is a link for Dennis beaches - bay is on the North side:

The Sesuit Harbor Cafe is a great choice for eating:

Here's a link for Brewster beaches - they are all on the bay

The Brewster Fish House is a little more upscale than Sesuit, great food:

Visit the Cape Cod Children's Museum in Mashpee then continue down the road to South Cape Beach. Enjoy fried seafood at Cooke's on Route 130 near Mashpee Commons, a fun area to shop and explore with a nice toy store.

To get to Mashpee you will drive over the Bourne Bridge which has lighter traffic than it's brethren the Sagamore Bridge.

Just want to mention that Sesuit Cafe is outdoors and cash only. You will need to find it by driving through the boat yard and squeezing into a parking place. Then, in high season, you will vie for a place to sit at dirty picnic tables. Sound good? Actually it is. You are then rewarded with delicious seafood (which you wait in line to order and pay top dollar for as well) like striped bass or lobster rolls. You see why we like it? This is simply to tell you that you will have to make an effort to eat here.

Meantime, also good enough is the nearby and casual Capt. Frosty's on 6A where you can dine inside if it is drizzling or you want to get out of the sun. The menu is seafood and beyond, not as delicious as Sesuit but it suits a lot of folks.

Agree on the bayside beaches--however, it seems that you need to obtain a beach parking permit from the town in order to park at the Brewster beaches--and you would have to go to the BrewsterTown Office Building to do so which may take time from your day trip that you don't want to spend--

Mayflower Beach on Cape Cod bay in Dennis has been recommended as one of the best beaches for children & you do not need a beach permit to park---however, you would do well to come right when the lot opens (or even before) in order to ensure parking for the day--the lines for parking can be very long at opening time- there are other bayside beaches such as Chapin and Corporation beach which allow general public access --tho' beachgoers who can't access Mayflower will try those as well & on a great beach day, those can fill up very quickly--

Mayflower is a beautiful beach with snack shack and bathroom facilities in addition to lifeguards. However the parking lot is typically full in season by about 10AM. Try it anyway if you arrive later since lots of families leave around lunchtime and we can usually get in then. You can pay your parking fee right at the lot instead of going somewhere for a parking pass.

Also, you should check out Old Silver Beach in Falmouth which is mild and great for children. There is also a private beach area for Seacrest motel and the public can walk up for lunch at their poolside.

If you want to go as far as Orleans, Skaket Beach is perfect for little ones. There is a snack bar and "proper toilets" Plent of restaurants in the town.
