Driving Advice/July 4th Traffic

I know this topic is beaten to death already but just wanted to get some expert opinions on best way to maximize time and minimize stress for a 3 day weekend in Cape Cod.

I'm going to be leaving from manhattan. I've read a couple of posts from years past about bad traffic but just wanted to get a sense of what I should do this year in terms of leaving early on the 4th vs late night on the 3rd.

I think the earliest I can leave on the 3rd would be 8PMish or alternatively I can leave early (at anytime) on the 4th.

Do you guys think it would be better to book an extra night at the hotel and drive up the 3rd (we are staying at the four points sheraton in eastham) or getting up early and driving up on the 4th (we were thinking of leaving nyc at 7AM, but after reading stories it seems that maybe we should leave at 5 or 6AM now...)

Google maps says the drive will take 4.5 hours with no traffic.

If you leave a 8 pm on the 3rd you will be able to wake up on the 4th and be on Cape Cod. You will have the entire day to enjoy yourselves. You shouldn't hit any traffic coming onto the Cape at midnight. Go for it!

I'd leave really early on the 4th so I didn't have to pay for an extra night at the hotel.

If you leave NYC at 5 AM or before, you should be okay.
