Where to Stay at the Cape?

We'll be traveling from Boston to the Cape for a few days (Mon-Thursday) during first week of August. Looking for a recommendation on where to stay with two active boys; 11 and 14 who like the beach and/ ponds, and also want to do some biking and possibly fishing as well. We'd rather not be too far away from everything either. Should we stay somewhere more centrally located, like Brewster?

The column to the right of this page has lots of information. Almost anywhere on the Cape will be good. You may have a problem finding a place to stay if you haven't already booked. Your best bet will probably be the Mid Cape area although my preference is for the Lower Cape. Harwich Port, Orleans, Brewster.

When you say that you do not want to be "too far away from everything" it is difficult to know exactly what you mean. I prefer the Outer Cape and can find many things to do there and do not care as much for the Upper, Mid, & Lower Cape. There are plenty of things to do all over the Cape but want you want to be near depends on what you want and like to do.

Outer Cape is nature oriented with the National Seashore, Salt Pond Visitor's Center, Wellfleet Bay Nature Sanctuary, hiking and nature trail. There is less congestion than in the rest of the Cape.

I suggest Yarmouth or Dennis as they're centrally located.

Beach, ponds and biking are all over the cape. There are kids everywhere. Sometimes it is a matter of budget for lodging but the beaches are open to all.

Brewster is very beautiful but the Bay beaches may be too gentle for your boys. Eastham's beaches or Orleans beaches are really great. Eastham puts you close to ptown and chatham , very nice places to visit.
