Great Rail Journeys LLC

I am looking at a tour of Scotland or England offered by Great Rail Journeys LLC out of York, England. Have any of you used them? What was your experience? Have you used any other companies for an Escorted Rail Tour and were they good? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have never used Great Rail Journeys (not sure what the LLC is), but they are a well established company and a member of the Association of Independent Tour Operators.

I have travelled with Great Rail Journeys a couple of times and on each occasion their service was excellent. Well organized, good hotels and excellent tour managers. I think they are the largest and most established rail holiday company in the UK so I can't think of anyone I'd recommend over them.

Do you mean this company - http://www.greatrail.com/ - as LLC would suggest the US company Great Train Escapes, LLC

I took the time to look at their web site. First, I have been making rail trips for years and wonder for the need to use a tour company. I thought the price was a tad high, but not too bad.

What I do is figure out my trip for the year and then book a hotel or nice B&B for each stop. Either way have a good journey.

Yes, that is the correct company and website. I have seen their name listed both with and without the LLC attached.

We are looking for an escorted tour as this will be our first trip to the area. I have also looked at purchasing the rail tickets and booking hotels myself, but there was not that big of a difference in price. Do you have any suggestions?

Nothing wrong with a tour, however, I like to plan my own side trips or take a local tour once I am settled. Generaly I purchase an 8 day rail pass allowing for unlimited trave, at any time, on any train. I enjoy planning and make note of times and duratioin. Take a look at "national rail" and play with various point to point trips. You might print out a rail map as well.

I agree with dodger70- we buy Britrail passes and plan our own trips. If you let us know the areas you are interested in, we can recommend hotels, etc. The UK train system is great- easy to use, timely, and well run, in my opinion. A rail tour of Scotland or Scotland and England is great. By the way- LLC stands for Limited Liability Corporation - at least in the USA.

<<< LLC : Limited Liability Company >>>

Which isn't a term used in the UK - it would be plc - so LLC would never be used by a UK based company and if it is being used then that would suggest something dodgy
