England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland

We are planning to take a tour of England, Scotland and Ireland in 2011. We are currently looking at either Globus 21 day, Best of the British Isle or Insight Vacations 17 day, Britain & Ireland Explorer. Does anyone have any experience with these 2 companies or coments on the choice of tours..

I don't know anything about those tour companies, but trying to see all four countries in 2 1/2 - 3 weeks by coach sounds like my idea of hell. You won't get to see much other than motorways and hotels, with the odd stop for photos or a an hour or two's sight seeing.

Why don't you work out what are the TOP TEN things you want to experience in the UK and Ireland, and see how you could do them yourself (eg hire a car, or train travel), and then compare that with a tour?

If you'll see your top ten on the tour, then fine. But if you don't see any of them perhaps think twice about the tour and just get yourself around the islands. Its not difficult.

Trying not to sound too disingenuous, but there is a lot of real estate to cover in England, Scotland and Ireland, and two and a half to three weeks will give you the merest hint of a look at what's on offer. You could spend a week in the west of Scotland or the southwest of England and leave wanting to see and do more - or you might think that three days in London, Glasgow or Dublin was more than enough time (everyone's views will vary).

If the tour's description includes a fair amount of 'see X and Y' then that's just what you might do - look at a sight from the window of the coach as it slowly passes. That might be enough for you - but perhaps not.

Decide what you would like to see and do, and then please visit the forums again - and do feel free to ask as many questinos as you need.
