Looking for ideas for Easter next year

Thanks to Abs140 for suggesting this. Hoping that like you get suggestions on websites if you like x you will like y if say where we have been and liked I can get some suggestions for other places to try for next Easter/

We are a family of 4 two kids one boy who will be 9 and one girl aged 7.

Live in Edinburgh and not a fan of driving so would not want to drive further than 200 miles or happy to travel by train. Would also like not to drive too far once there no further than 40 mile round trip.

Would be looking for self catering so would have to be somewhere where there is a good choice of properties.

We have been to following places and liked them

Aviemore

Pitlochry

York (done by train)

Whitby

Oban (done by train)

Brodick

Seahouses

Newtonmore

Inverness

Kingussie (spent most of time in Newtonmore doing Wildcat Trail!)

We have also been to following and didn't like them

Frosterley - loved the place but caught an infection from the water there.

Ambleside - too busy for our taste.

Really appreciate any help!

Why not come down to London on the train? London is quieter at Easter, but just about everything stays open and your kids will love it.

How about Bute? It is like another world there. A really compact wee island, with lots of activities. Mount Stuart is a great place to spend a day. You can get the ferry over to Colintraive too, to explore Cowal - all of which you can do in a lot fewer than 40 miles.

And as you will know from your trip to Brodick, you move into a different time-zone as soon as you step on a ferry!

If you come to London by train, you will be able to get into many attractions 2-for-1 (so it would cost you 1 adult and 1 child). Museums are free (natural history and science are good for children).

Book 'Advance' train tickets as soon as they go on sale (c12 weeks before travel).
