A question like this is best asked in the 'Cruise Critic' website, which is TripAdvisor's sister forum.

There is a regular public train service between London's Liverpool Street Station and Harwich International, but this may not be suitable - most journeys involve a change en-route.

Cruise operators often put on their own coach shuttles from Central London or the airports, and some cruises are served by special trains. You would need to contact the Cruise operator for details of these as they are not advertised to the general public.

Most users on this forum read 'London City' to mean the airport in the east side of London. Is that what you meant, or do you mean central London. If the latter, where? (Because central London is huge).

As the OP put "city" with a small c I'm guessing they mean Central London rather than London City Airport.

If my assumption is correct then it doesn't really matter where in London you start your journey... you make your way to Liverpool Street Station (by taxi or Tube, depending on how much baggage you have) and catch a train from there. You will almost definitely have to change at Manningtree as there are only two direct trains to Harwich per day now (to coincide with the ferry to Hoek van Holland).

You need to catch a train heading for Norwich - they depart every 30 minutes, on the hour and on the half-hour. Journey time to Manningtree is 55 minutes. From Manningtree there is a train to Harwich every hour on the hour - so you have a connection of either 5 minutes or 35 minutes. You have to change platforms at Manningtree, which means going through an an underpass - down a steep flight of stairs and up a equally steep flight of stairs the other side. Not much fun with baggage, though you will usually find someone willing to give you a hand.

While the five minute connection is usually do-able you'll probably feel more comfortable if you aim for the longer connection - there is a bar/coffee shop right next to the Harwich platform so you won't have to wait in the cold.

You don't need to make a reservation on the train, just turn up, buy a ticket and get on - though if you know what train you're going to catch you can save some money by buying an advance saver ticket online (they are only valid on a specific train - whereas ordinary tickets can be used on any train)

hi taking into consideration that you know a lot about such a trip to Harwich. Do you recommend any hotel there which is near the port where cruises start. If yes, how to reach there?

regards,
