Best way to get to Novotel Greenwich from London Kings Cross

We are a family of four with children of ages 9 and 14 coming up from Edinburgh and would like help to figure out which tube/bus line(s) would be the best to take. Our train will arrive at Kings Cross around 2 pm. Have 4 pieces of luggage with us. I heard about a boat ride that travels on the river Thames. Would anyone recommend taking the boat from Westminster to Greenwich? This way we can save time for other sightseeing spots that have not gotten to yet. Any suggestions will e greatly appreciated!

With luggage in tow, you want the simplest route. That rules out the ThamesClipper boat (which is a great service, and I suggest you do use it sometime during your stay).

With luggage, the simplest is to cross from KingsCross to St Pancras - they are technically separate stations but in fact barely five minutes apart - level walk. At St Pancras take the FirstCapitalConnect train towards Brighton, getting off at LondonBridge. From LondonBridge pick up a train to Greenwich (probably final destination Dartford, but read the indicator board carefully as not all Dartford trains go via Greenwich).

Your hotel is right at the mainline station.

You could also do this by crossing London by tube - I'm recommending the FCC train because it's easier to get on/off that with luggage.

Assuming you'll do further exploration after hotel check in, a travelcard makes sense (zones 1/2) - buy that when you arrive at Kings Cross/St Pancase.

If I may add to rcspiers's excellent advice.....

Not all trains to Dartford are routed via Greenwich, and similarly not all trains via Greenwich go on to Dartford - so look also for trains with a final destination of Plumstead or Slade Green. Your FCC train from St Pancras will arrive at London Bridge on platform 5. Your train to Greenwich will leave from either platform 1 (more likely) or platform 2 (or, if you are travelling on a Sunday, platform 4 as well). After alighting at London Bridge, walk along platform 5 opposite to the direction that the train was travelling to avoid struggling with your luggage over the footbridge connecting the platform.

You're right! We would waste too much time travelling to Windsor. We will take your advice and visit the tourist sites in London tomorrow. This will give us an excuse to come back :) Thanks!
