London Amsterdam

We are leaving on a Baltic cruise out of amsterdam end of August. Would like to see London too. would it be too rushed to fly into heathrow first for couple days then fly to Amsterdam couple days before cruise? What area in London would be best for hotel since we only have short time, not too expensive? In Amsterdam, is it best to find airport close to cruise terminal and go in to center? Any suggestions appreciated.

Amsterdam Schipol airport is 20 minutes on the train to Amsterdam Centraal railway station. The cruise terminal isn't far from Centraal.

Generally, Bloomsbury is a good area for hotels in London catering for all budgets. What is your budget in GBP per night?

There are flights from most London airports to Amsterdam and as Matt points out, the cruise terminal is literally next to the Centraal station.

Post in the Amsterdam Forum for ideas on Amsterdam hotels, again, quoting your budget in Euros this time.

Find a flight from London to Amsterdam then come back and we can recommend London hotels convenient for the departure airport

We are arriving at Heathrow last week of August, staying 2 nights, departing from Heathrow to Amsterdam. Will check Amsterdam forums for hotels as you suggested. We will probably have to take a taxi from Heathrow to London hotel because we have luggage and husband has back issues....maybe tough to get on trains I'm thinking. Know taxi is pricey but may have to go for it. Any suggestions for finding hotel in London for about 150 gsp? Would be best if central located for tourist attractions, unless easy walking/public transportation for husband. may not be realistic for that cost. Thinking we will have to take taxi back to heathrow when we depart for Amsterdam too. Thanks much for suggestions!

You've mentioned Heathrow, but London has six airports. Better fares/schedules may be available to other airports.

A cab from (any of the airports) is the most expensive option by a mile. But depending on which airport/hotel option you find, we can suggest transport options.

sounds like i should have researched the airports more when booking flights. We are arriving Heathrow terminal 4 and departing Heathrow terminal 4. Cab appears costly, what's next easiest? Someone recommended premier inn county hall hotel. Said it was close to everything for sightseeing. Little more expensive than planned, but maybe worth it for location? Someone mentioned Bloomsbury area....is that centrally located too?

Thanks again.

If you would like easy access to and from LHR then have a look at Earl's Court. It's not as central as Bloomsbury, but the station has step free access to and from the platforms and street level and is just 30 minutes from the airport.

Check rates at the Premier Inn Kensington in Knaresborough Place and the PI Kensington Olympia (badly named) in West Cromwell Road. The former is better situated but the latter might have better rates. Look as well to the Best Western Burns, BW The Boltons and London Lodge.

If you would rather stay a bit more central, and if the PI County Hall is pricey, have a look at the PI Blackfriars and the PIs in York Way and Euston Road. The first is handy for the Underground from Blackfriars station (again a step free journey from and to the airport with one simple change en route) and the other two are very near King's Cross station, 55 minutes from T4 on the Piccadilly line, no changes needed.
