Best places in Central England - castles, old villages

What are the best places to see withing 150 miles from Coventry? Interested in castles, old villages (like Shaftesburry but closer to Coventry), attractions. Tried to search in the internet but everything is too far from Coventry for one day trip.

Well, of you mind something very cool - I can find a hotel nearby and so go farther from Coventry with overnight stay.

Thanks!

I suggest you look up Coventry on Tripadvisor, click on "Things to do", then zoom out on the interactive map, which will show you all the attractions inside and outside Coventry, including Kenilworth Castle which I can vouch for as an excellent visit.

Your other alternative, of course, is to post your question in the Coventry part of the UK forum - you will get far more responses that way without your question getting lost in the bigger United Kingdom forum!

Good luck.

Try Ludlow and (quieter) Bishop's Castle and Clun, all in Shropshire. Easy drive from Cov. We stay at The Castle Hotel in BC.

In the other direction, there's Stamford (Burghley house, lovely stone town), Rutland and surrounding areas (full of picturesque Cotswoldy villages, nice pubs etc.). You can walk or cycle 20 miles around Rutland water off-road. It's close enough that you could do it in a day.. but an overnight stay would be much more worthwhile.
