Accommodation in London, England for -2- nights only

3 adults plus a 5 year old boy plan on spending a couple of nights in London next March. Plan on walking from "sight to sight" and seeing as much as we practically can. Hotel can be off the beaten track but ideally close to most/some of the sights. Your suggestions and questions are appreciated.

My question is "What is your budget?"

We are all family and one room with a double and two single beds would suffice. Budget of !50 pounds/night incl. breakfast would be okay........Thanks for your prompt reply.

The two are diametrically opposed. Either walk and see little (because London is big and the sights are scattered over a wide area), or take the bus / tube and see as much as you practically can.

If we can get a 'nice' boutique hotel within a 10 min ride by the Tube to downtown London we would be happy. Guess the problem is with trying to find a nice hotel within our budget. Prefer to stay in a location that is safe, clean and recommended by others........ Thank-you

London has no 'downtown' as, say Toronto does, and as joe mentioned the sights are scattered over a wide area. You need not limit yourselves to using the Underground either, as there are at least five other modes of transport in the city centre which could be useful as well.

Will you travel to and from London by air or by rail; if the former which airport(s) will you use and if the latter which station(s)? Will your stay in the capital be during the week or at the weekend?

Rooms for three adults plus one child are thin on the ground. Premier Inns would be a good choice, but they will not book three adults in one room. The Hilton Metropole has rooms that might suit, but it's not exceptionally handy for sightseeing.

Have a look at one of the modest bed and breakfast hotels in Gower Street, the Ridgemount, Arosfa or Jesmond. They offer clean, comfortable accommodation in a very good location and should have rooms within your budget. The Jesmond Dene hotel, near King's Cross station, has flats available that may come in at or under budget and may be more suitable as well.

Thank for everyone's help. Travel Advisor a great source for travel etc., We have reserved a couple of nights at the Grand Plaza Serviced Apartments in Westminster Borough, London. We have selected a quadruple Executive Apartment which will easily accommodate 4 people. The unit includes a large lounge, kitchen, a sofa bed and two single beds. Checked the reviews and they appear good......Total price for the two nights 327 pounds..
