Lost UK passport in bombay India - advice please

Hi can someone please advise whether I can get a new UK passport whilst I am in India I have 4 weeks left of my holiday here and would prefer to get a new passport rather than an emergency document. Thank you

Applying for a replacement passport for one that is lost is like applying for a passport renewal, but it takes slightly longer. They won't be able to send it to you in India.

Therefore you will need an emergency passport from the British High Commision in India.

P.S. and you will have to pay £72.50 for your replacement passport.

P.P.S. have checked and you can actually apply for a replacement passport for one that is lost while you are in India - but it will take 6 weeks and you have to pay a 2000 Rupee courier fee:

okay thank you - if I get the emergency document and apply for a replacement once back in the UK do you know how long that process takes in the UK?

It's not really like applying for a renewal - more documentation is required to replace a lost passport than to renew one.

You should be able to get a new passport within a few weeks of returning if you opt for the premium service and travel to London. The same day service is not available for lost passports.
