Single mum with 7y/o son - where to go

Hi,

I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful holiday for me and my son for a few days in Easter.

We live in glasgow and would like something within the UK. - well that's what we can afford hopefully :)

Pls does anyone have any ideas?

Sonewhere out of Scotland would be nice - without sounding too ambituous.

Budget is set around £250.

Thanks in advance.

Hello again,

Long day af work so barely just got back to this thread...

Had a look at the National Rail map.

See that you could get to Berwick Upon Tweed easily enough. Have been there and can recommend this quirky town.

I stayed in a Pub/hotel but there are some reasonable Caravan sites with "things" going on for kids. Nice beaches and an interesting walk around the walls, follow the Lowry Trail.

Good public transport down the wild and beautiful Northumberland coast, and places like Bamburgh Castle and Lighthouse, Lindisfarne, Farne Islands, Seahouses, Alnwick, Cragside.....

Have a look at the on-line rail map, perhaps it will provide some inspiration.

Link coming up...........

Do consider staying in a YHA. You can often get reasonably priced private rooms if you book in advance, sometimes ensuite, and it can be quite a saving on B&Bs. They are clean with fresh linen, and you can self cater, or many of them have reasonably priced in house restaurants for breakfast and dinners. Some of them offer activities you can book on to. Lots of families use them, and you can chat to others...or not, as you feel comfortable.
