We are a group of 4 middle age women and are flying into London and out of Glasgow. We will be renting a car and venturing on a two week tour, at the end of September, of England and Scotland. We do have a wedding to attend in Inverness on Sep. 25 other than that we have no schedule.
We are interested in:
Local culture and/or festivals
We are not interested in lengthy guided tours or museums but this is not a definite denial. We would be interested in these if it is something unique.
Should we book lodging ahead? Are there any roads or areas to stay away from? Any ideas on a route to take? We are looking at leaving London and heading west to Stone Henge then up the west side of England continuing into the west side of Scotland and up to Inverness then down to Glasgow. Is this a good route?
We are defiantly on a budget and would like to keep our lodging cost to less than $200/nt for a room that will accommodate all 4 of us. We are okay to splurge up to $500/nt for lodging for a unique castle experience.
Our thoughts on food are to eat breakfast at which ever hotel or B&B we stay. Have a light lunch on the road somewhere and eat our evening meal at a local pub close to where we are lodging for that night. Of course we will snack through the day on any local fare we may see that is enticing.
