Central Place To Stay

My husband are planning to spend a month in the UK this September. Any advice regarding a village with easy public transport access to train station in the middle or south of England? I have mobility issues so will spend some of the time savoring village life and countryside. Key places we want to visit are Sissinghurst gardens, Sandringham, Hidcote Manor gardens, Blenheim Castle, Chartwell, Land's End and London. We wish to have a home base (vacation rental) at a reasonable price ($2,500 to 3000/month) for the entire month. When we travel to Land's End etc., we would stay overnight at a hotel in that area but retain our home base. Thanks for your advice and help.

There is not really any small village that is "central" to that disparate bunch of destinations, they are so widespread.

In fact staying in London itself, for transport to any of them, would be your best LOGISTIC option IMO...

But that is not what you want or desirr, you say.

So a rethink required, IMO. Have tou plotted up these places on a map??

Hi Marlene.

Sorry to be the pourer of cold water, but I think the first thing you need to do is to have a bit of a rethink of the whole concept.

You have named a list of places that are nowhere near each other and none of which are particularly easy to reach by public transport from nearby to them, nevermind from some 'central point' which would be hours from any of them, nevermind for someone with mobility issues. With a car you could more easily visit all or some, albeit with some ridiculously long drives. But what you are proposing won't work.

Hi,

The good news - Chartwell and Sissinghurst are close to each other, as are Blenheim and Hidcote.

However, one pair is in the south-east of England, the other in the Cotswolds, about 3-4 hours apart.

Ideally, you would stay in two locations.

Sadly, Sandringham is in the far east of England, and Land's End, as the name suggests, is nearly 400 miles to the west.

Either you will have to be more mobile, or drop some locations. Try google maps to calculate (roughly) how long it takes to get around southern England (then add on about 50% to allow for traffic).

Hope this helps.

Alternatively, look at Sussex or the Cotswolds to see where else you can visit if you base yourself in that location. Those 2 areas have dozens of fantastic properties to visit.
