Rental cars firms - other than main brands

In July we want to pick up a car in London for two adults to spend a week in the South of England and return car to Heathrow (preferably).

Can anyone recomend a good, reliable and economic rental firm in addition to the known firms like Avis and Hertz etc.

Thanks.

Are you staying in London for a while before your travels around the South. It is not a good ideal to have a car in London.

There are smaller local car hire firms, but because they are more local you would need to pick up and drop off your car at their premises. An option may be to take a train to somewhere fairly central to where you want to tour and hire from there. An alternative larger company is Enterprise who will collect you and take you to their premises to pick up a car. We have used them and found them very good.

Edit: Just a thought, you need to keep in mind that many smaller companies do not open on Sundays.

Green Motion is cheap but please DO NOT USE THEM. They have a reputation for "finding" very small scratches and charging very high damage costs. Have a look at this link for example.
