London to Bath via Chichester

My husband, daughter (age 18) and I will be in England towards the end of June. We're going to travel from London to Bath but we'd like to make a detour and visit Chichester on our way. We'd like to get some ideas on what the best method of transportation would be for this trip. Do we need to rent a car or can this be done using the trains? Any suggestions are welcome

It can be done by train but it will be much slower than going direct from London to Bath.

What will you do with your luggage at Chichester?

Might be better to do Chichester as a day trip from London and go straight from London to Bath.

London Victoria to Chichester is about 90 minutes with no changes.

Chischester to Bath is 2.5 hours with 1 change.

London to Bath direct takes about 90 minutes.
