Credit Cards: Swipe okay or Chip & Pin Needed?

My 14-year-old daughter is traveling to England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland with a student group. Will her "swipe" style credit card work okay or should I get her a chip and pin card--like Travelex offers?

Thanks!

Swipe is OK. But she'll need some way to get cash and it is always a good idea to have at least one backup method

Chip and PIN would be preferable, but swipe cards can be used in most places

Most importantly, make sure the card issuer know that she will be using the card abroad

A cultural difference. In the UK, no bank will issue a credit card to anyone under the age of 18. So she may get some odd looks or questions on why she has a credit card at all.
