Warmest place in England? - IN JANUARY

I'm exploring the West of England this January. Where should I go? I heard that Penzance has some good storms that time of year. Does it snow there? Anyone know which area has it the easiest during the month of January?

This is the UK, there's no such thing as a certainty where weather is concerned. The weather on the north and south coasts of Cornwall can be very different even in the far south west and just because it's decent on one day doesn't mean the next day won't be thoroughly miserable

You probably won't get snow on the coast though and it's rare inland. But that doesn't mean it won't happen to you.

Sorry to be so vague, but that's what UK weather is like.

Well, in January, the Sauna at my Health Club is pretty hot, the Steam bath is not far off.

Otherwise, hop into bed with a hot water bottle, that can be quite warm!!

More seriously, the Scilly Isles probably have the most potential for the warmest climate at that time - but that will be 'relative'

Essex is the driest part of the Country, particularly around Hyde Hall, the gardens of the Royal Horticultural Society, but all I can say is that it seems to have been raining buckets here for most of 2008!!!

In England in January you can't expect warm anywhere but there isn't much chance of snow in Penzance, which will probably be pretty nearly as warm as it gets here. You'd have to go to one of the moors (maybe Bodmin moor) to have much hope of snow in the West Country.

If there are storms go to the north coast of Cornwall and enjoy wave watching.

Yeah, the weather's a pain. You might find yourself snowed into a pub with a fire and a selection of whiskies.

If you're lucky.

If you want mild winter weather in England, you're best to head Southwest and yes anywhere from Penzance up to lovely Dorset will be milder and there's plenty to see along the coast and the gentle rural inland countryside. Daily highs will often be in the 10-13C range (50-55F) along here. As the weather fronts usually move in from the Atlantic you can expect rain and showers interspersed with bright winter sunshine and yes it can often be windy but the wind will usually be coming from the south and west rather than the north.

Very wet in the South West!! And so, it is generally milder than the SE - they get better summer temps than us but more bitter winter temps & any snow, if it's to be had. It rarely settles round here, which is a shame, much rather have that than the continuous rain :( So far, it's been pretty mild - often stays that way right up to Xmas - but if it's going to be bitter, then January/Feb is usually the time!

Hi there

If you enjoy watching storms, then head for Cape Cornwall, a couple of miles west from St Just when a force 8 southwesterly is driving waves onto the rocks, probably one of the wildest spots in Cornwall.

Forgive me for asking Breezers, but do you by any chance own Kelsey's? You've made 5 or 6 virtually identical posts and all you've done is plug this place.
