Opinions about multi-city England trip

Hello everyone, I'm planning a trip to England in July between 1st and 12th, from 1st to 4th I'm staying in London, I want to visit Manchester, Warwick (the castle), York and Cambridge. I'd like your opinions about the following logistic of my trip:

- 4 July: from London to Manchester

- 5 July: day trip from Manchester to Warwick

- 7 July: from Manchester to York

- 10 July: from York to Cambridge

- 12 July: from Cambridge to London (and going back home)

In Warwick I only want to visit the castle, it's just a day trip from Manchester because I also don't have many plans in Manchester, so I would use it as a base to go to Warwick. Another option would be going from London to Warwick on July 4, stay there 1 night and go to Manchester on July 5, but I'm worried about spending hours between hotel check-ins and check-outs and losing the whole morning, from Manchester I could just leave early in the morning and go back at the end of the day.

What you think about those ideas? Any other?

Thank you.

If you don't want to do much in Manchester why bother going there? You should stay in Warwick instead.

I think it makes no sense to travel all the way from London to Manchester just to do a day trip to Warwick.

This website will give you an idea of times of trains between your destinations. it looks like over 2 hours from Manchester to Warwick. So 4 hours on the train for a day trip might not be such a good plan.

Yeah ok, going to Manchester and then to Warwick is not a good idea. I guess it would make more sense to go to Warwick, stay there 1 night and go to Manchester on July 5. I want to visit Manchester but I'm just not planning 3 days there.

Thank you all.

London Marylebone to Warwick is under 2 hours. That would seem to be the logical first leg of your tour.

Warwick Castle gets mixed reviews.. some people love it, while others complain that it's been turned into an over commercialised Disneyfied theme park. It's certainly nightmarishly expensive. The town of Warwick is nice though, and you can get a good view of the castle exterior by hiring a rowing boat on the river . Kenilworth Castle, a few miles away, is worth considering too.

One of your big issues is going to be what to do with your luggage each time you arrive in a new place. If you arrive early enough for a full day of sightseeing you are probably too early to check into your hotel. They might not let you drop your bags off, and even if they do that is half your day wasted finding hotels and dealing with luggage.

You can easily visit all of these places by train as day trips from London. That will be a lot less hassle IMHO. No moving hotels involved.

Hello, same person as posts 1 and 4, just on a different computer.

if you can say why you wish to visit Manchester which has to be said is not usually on the main Tourist route (sorry to Mancunians, my son in law is one!)

if Manchester is not so important then have you considered Chester as somewhere in the North West to stay?

Your other choices of York, Warwick castle and Cambridge point to the fact that you might enjoy historical sites, hence Chester may IMHO be more your thing.

Just trying to help!

Wow, Chester seems really nice, yes, I like historical sites.

The main reason behing Machester is soccer, I would visit places like stadiums, the football museum, etc. I can see a few other interesting places to visit there but they could be easily replaced and I think you gave me a good option.
