seat reservations

Traveling on our arrival day London to York and plan to make a seat reservation in standard class. Is there a set fee or how does it work? CanI book online?

You can book online at ww.eastcoast.co.uk

Note that "Advance" tickets (which is a specific ticket type) are valid on the booked train only. Allow plenty of time for arrival, baggage, customs, immigration and transport from the airport. Advance tickets are released *approx* 12 weeks before travel, are quota limited, and the cheapest price points sell out first and quickly.

You can buy an Of-peak or Anytime tickets with a seat reservation for your preferred train, but if you miss it your ticket will still be valid on any other off-peak or anytime train, however you will lose your reservation and have to find an unreserved seat.

As well as East Coast, Grand Central trains also run this route. Their trains are less frequent, but tickets valid on GC trains only may be cheaper.

If you buy a ticket immediately before you travel you won't get a reservation - there's usually a deadline of 2 hours before the train leaves its start point.

For clarity, a seat reservation and a ticket are two different things. A ticket allows you to travel, seat reservations (where available) get you a particular seat.

Seat reservations are usually free of charge and are included in the ticket price.
