Balloon Fiesta Bristol

Where is a good place to stay for the balloon fiesta. Preferably somewhere in walking distance from the fiesta.

Can't recommend anywhere personally but if you look for B&B's and Guest Houses in the Clifton area and on the Downs you are close to Clifton Suspension Bridge which you would need to walk over to get to Ashton Court.

I think they now close the bridge to traffic while the fiesta is on to make it safe for pedestrians who are walking over for the event (??)

I have a feeling they now close the suspension bridge to everyone when there are big events on - even pedestrians. At least they did last time I went to the balloon fiesta and Ashton court festival.

To be close enough to walk you could try to find somewhere in Ashton, bedminster or southville. This will probably mean b and bs rather than big hotels.

Or there is a special bus that picks up from Clifton, the centre or temple meads.

Two dedicated Bus Services will operate during the Fiesta weekend, connecting central Bristol, Clifton and Bristol Temple Meads with the Fiesta site, so you are pretty much ok to stay anywhere!

You will find a high demand for accommodation that weekend, so suggest booking as early as possible to get the best rate.

Yes, Bridge is closed for big events due to sheer number of pedestrians (& probably the residents don't want the masses walking through what is considered the finest-looking suburb in Europe)!

The dedicated buses are a rip-off, could accept paying the fare if they went nearer the estate, it's a long trek up a steep path.

As for accommodation, there are about a dozen B&Bs along Coronation Rd, Southville - but probably all booked up now, those around Clifton too. Alternative - if you have a caravan: there's a superb Caravan Club site along Baltic Wharf, behind the historic SS Great Britain ship ;-) Probably booked up months ago though!
