ferry from Granville to Jersy and accommodation

We will be staying inland from Granville and would like to take the ferry over to Jersey and stay for a couple of days.

Are there ferries? Would anyone recommend taking the car and exploring or, is there plenty to do close to the port in Jersy? Walking any great distance is difficult. Any recommendations re accommodation?

There doesn't seem to be updates on this.

Thanks in anticipation!

Condor only sail from St Malo, this is the only option if you want to take a car.

Manche-Iles Express operate from Granville direct to Jersey, foot passenger only. It usually goes to Gorey but since this week it is having to go to St Helier due to problems with the pier at Gorey (this will be for the indefinite future until fixed, and its a big crack so won't be fixed quickly).

See www.manche-iles-express.com/normandie_eur.php

You can hire a car from near the ferry port in St Helier if you like, or just pick a hotel in St Helier and walk / taxi there from the ferry port and use buses (this would be fine for 2 days).

Hope this helps

Just realised an error in my message. The Granville ferry always goes to St Helier. The ferry from Carteret (further north) usually goes to Gorey, but is having to divert to St Helier at the moment.

Thanks! That was a quick reply! The info re the Granville ferry being foot-passengers only was useful!

How long does that journey take on the ferry? How far to 'civilisation' from the port when we get there?

Hi,

The journey takes about an hour. You arrive at the port in St Helier at the Albert Terminal (its on Albert Pier, have a look on Google maps). Its about a 5 minute walk to the middle of town so you have lots of hotel options nearby (what's your budget?). For example:

Royal Yacht

Radisson

The Grand

Pomme D'Or

Forgot to mention - St Helier is the main town in Jersey (i.e. 'civilisation'). Its a town of about 30,000 people with lots of bars, restaurants, etc and is effectively the capital of the island where all the banks, bus terminal, etc are

Hi, thanks again! We were wondering whether, IF we're only there for the day, it'd be worth catching some tour-bus so that we see some of the island and perhaps learn some history.

(Sort of like a London-open-top-tourist bus!)

From what I've been able to ascertain, the ferry departs Granville 10am and returns at 10pm.

I have taken this ferry this week and we had a great crossing and as Paul said it took about an hour. They are also happy for you to take what you can carry on the boat - so I went with a little bag and came back with a few more :-)
