weather in may/june - swimming etc

Hi there, we have been to Jersey in September 2007 and the weather was gorgeous and people were happily swimming in the sea. I was wondering when the sea becomes warm enough to swim in, as we are going to come back to Jersey in May or June 2012 and we would really like it to be warm enough to go to the beach and swim in the sea etc. Its my 40th birthday in March, so this is a special holiday, but we are delaying it until a bit later in the hope of warm weather!. (our daughter starts school September 2012 so do not want to take her on holiday then).

We stayed at the Merton Hotel last time and are intending to do the same again this time.

Thanks in advance for any replies and help :-)

The Merton is a very good choice once again and centrally located. You will probably want to head over to St. Brelade for the commercial beach which has lifeguards in high season or Grouville Bay with plenty of free parking opposite the Bass and Lobster in Gorey. However, there are lots of beaches, some safer for swimming than others. The weather is never predictable at any time of year though Jersey generally has more sun and is warmer than the UK. There are plenty of people in swimming at the moment and there were back in June so it really depends on each person. The Gulf Stream keeps the water at a reasonable temperature and many local people swim all year round, they are often swimming off Archrondel in mid January when I drive past. As a back up you always have the pools at the Merton Hotel.

We were in Jersey in June this year and I,along with plenty of others, went for a swim in the sea at St Brelades. It was pretty cold at first - Husband too much of a coward to go in- but lovely once you got under !!

We always go to Jersey middle of June and are usually lucky with the weather but its a chance you take.

You could have a look at The Jersey Met website http://www.jerseymet.gov.je/ and click on the link on the left for 'Jersey Climate'.

This shows you the weather data all the way back to 1994, so you can check out previous May/June weather to get an idea of what it's usually like.
