Cheapest and easiest transfer from Manchester Airport

Hi there,

Off to Chester (or Hawarden, Wales to be exact) next week and unfortunately we can´t get a lift from friends as usual.

Can anyone recommend a good taxi service or is it better to get the train?

Train. The station is built into the airport, you will get a train to Manchester Oxford Rd and change for Chester and Wales.

Thank you!

Just checked train times and although it´s cheaper than taxi, it is not very convinient since it will take hours.

Anyone that can recommend a good taxi service?

There's an alternate faster route by public tansport. Take the train from Chester to Altrincham then get the bus to the airport.

Sorry I don't know any of the local taxi companies in the Hawarden area.

Sorry - just re-read you post and you're going in the other direction. So bus (number 18 ) from the airport to Altrincham then train to Chester. You can then get a local taxi at Chester station to Hawarden

Thanks for you infromation. we have decided to rent a car and then drive on to LHR fro departure the next week. We think it would be the easiest on us senior citizens that have to lug the suitcases around.

Probably your best bet. When we need a transfer we use Parkers, always totally reliable though not necessarily the cheapest.

Have a good trip.

I would point out that train service from Chester to London is excellent now, while driving can be a bit of a nightmare.

I am rethinking our car rental. If the train service to London is better than driving, how long is the trip and average cost? Which train service do I check? Thanks,

Train to London is a touch over 2 hours. You can check the timetables and book tickets online at www.eastcoast.co.uk

For the cheapest ticket, you need to book them 10-12 weeks before you travel. Prices rise steadily from then on. Cheapest can be about £8 (but they're very rare) often you can pay about £22 but if you go for a walk up fare then it will be much, much more.
