Planning week long trip to Cornwall/Devon in June. Have located a couple of cottages in Lanteglos-by-Fowey area. Seems to be a good central location for visiting both Cornwall and Devon, not as close to Devon as we would like;but the cottage rental begins on the exact day we arrive in the area and would save us some money. Our other plan had been to rent a cottage in Totnes that had short breaks for 3 to 4 days then move to a B&B in the Fowey area to make trips to St. Ives, Land's End (feel we must as this is our first trip to the area.) We are looking at dropping off our rental car in Exeter, before taking the train to Bath.
Would like to know closest town for shopping, pubs, etc. Is this area very secluded, easy to get to by car? I'm seeing that to get to the ferry to Greenway, Christie's summer home, will take maybe a couple of hours? I would like to go there; so if staying in this cottage puts us too far away from Devon I would sure like to know.
We have been studying maps, sites, cottages, villages, towns, etc. until my head is spinning. This is the latest incarnation of our trip plans designed to see as much as we can without becoming exhausted and my husband
spending too much time in the car. I've already begun to get myself in shape for walking up and down in those steep fishing villages that I've been reading about!
