Travel in Devon, Cornwall and Kent uk in September 2014

We are touring by car from Plymouth . We won't to go as far north as Clovelly then down to St Ives then through Fowey and up to Salisbury and Windchester. We also want to see some parts of the Isle of Wight then onto Rye. Canterbury is next finishing in Dover or Sandwich before catching a train to Gatwick. We have 6 nights and are prepared to have just one night stays.. If you think this is too much in the timeframe, could you suggest another itinerary please?

It's waaaaaay to much in the timeframe unless you have an especially comfortable car and your plan is to spend your entire holiday in it. It would be too much for two weeks.

As for an alternative itinerary, only you can come up with your must see places that you'd actually just like to see rather than have them as a blurred photo as you madly rush by onto the next stop? Pick two or three places near each other. Stay in a couple of places only and do day trips from there.

Something (quite a lot) will have to go.

you are trying to see too much

When making your plans bear in mind that many of the roads in Cornwall particularly around the coast are narrow and twisty sometimes with room for just one car making it necessary to reverse to a passing place. This is not really a problem but it all takes time. I think the secret to visiting Cornwall is less is more. Choose one area and see it properly rather than rushing around trying to see everything and only having enough time to park and walk down the main street.

In my opinion Clovelly has become very commercialised and is no longer worth visiting.

Agreed with above , you certainly can't see that much in that time frame.

I can only agree with the earlier comments and you now realise that it is not realistic. But it's hard to know what to suggest because you have so much you want to see. How about three nights in the Salisbury area and three nights in the Canterbury area. There is loads to see and do wherever you choose as bases and those two have lots to see in each area as day trips out from each.

As you have the car from Plymouth you could have three days staying in the Fowey area and 3 days around Salisbury. It depends on what interests you.

You've mentioned a timeframe for your itinerary (which you have said you will review, in the light of previous replies) but how long in the UK in total? Presumably the desire to return to Gatwick means that is also where you arrive in the UK, so what were your thoughts with respect to starting your journey in Plymouth?
