Hi I'm looking to book an apartment on cornwall newquay preferably next to a beach for july 2017 for me and my husband and 2 kids aged 3 and 6. Any recommendations would be great. Thanks in advance
Avoid boardmasters weekend and also look out to see what else is on during the weeks that you plan to stay. Newquay is very much a teenagers/early 20's place with all that that brings. why Newquay?
Try www.holidaylettings.co.uk for your dates. Most July 2017 apartments should be bookable already.
Read the descriptions carefully, and be wary of any that don't get mostly good reviews.
Thanks for your reply. It's our first time to Cornwall so wasnt sure what area to pick. I wasn't aware that it was more of a place for teenagers. Could you recommend another place that I can look into for a relaxing peaceful holiday with two small kids.
Thanks wirewiper will definetley look on the site and check reviews before booking.
Take a look at Looe, it might suit you better.
Thank you for your replys. Me and husband hve been doing some research at St ives seems lovely. We will be driving down and wasn't sure what parking was like in st ives. Also if we stayed in st ives what day trips could we do?
St Ives is indeed lovely. It is also very popular, so very expensive. It gets very busy in the summer, but then so do most places in Cornwall to be fair. Parking is a nightmare, so make sure if you book somewhere in St Ives it includes parking.
As it is in the far west, then day trips are probably going to be in that end of the county, which is beautiful, but misses out the North Cornwall coast which is also stunning.
I would second Looe being the place for you if you have small children. it is less busy than the north coast generally and therefore less expensive. If you base yourself in Looe then you can easily travel around to visit places. I took my kids to the Maritime museum in Falmouth yesterday for a brilliant exhibition on the Vikings. really easy to get to in around an hours drive. the beaches on the south east coast are less wavy so you don't get the surfing (nor the surfing teenagers). As others have said wherever you book make sure you know what is included. you can either go for an individual cottage with no other facilities in the centre of a village or seaside town or go a few miles out and stay on a site - cottage or caravan - that has facilities like a pool, farm animals, bar, kids clubs etc.
Newquay isn't somewhere I would go with small children but then neither is st ives because of the parking and driving nightmare.
Unfortunately the Viking exhibition is scheduled to close in January but Fakmouth is a possible destination anyway. There are some lovely beaches just outside the town and lots to do in it - shops, boat trips, ferries, the castle, parks, cafes, restaurants, a reasonable amount of parking etc.
Another 'no' for Newquay.
Im sorry but I never heard such a load of rubbish. There is nothing wrong with Newquay as your choice,I know your kids will certainly thank you for it. "A place just for young people"
Think that is proved wrong by the amount of couches that arrive at the big hotels every day of the week full of over 60s. And no they don't hide away in their hotels come evening. Come through town around 8-30 to 9pm and you see them leaving after evening meal to take a stroll into town. Im not saying there is not any parting by the young, of course there is ,but probably not till well after your childrens bed time.
As far as the children are concerned there is lots for them to do. We have the zoo,on the Barrowfields in summer we have a huge play area full of bouncy castles and loads of other inflatables for all ages. Jungle Jacks another fantastic indoor play area for all ages.
About 5 miles outside Newquay we have Dairyland another great attraction for kids. The boating lake where they can have a little boat ride around the lake. All pubs are very child friendly and most have indoor or outdoor play areas. Ofcourse not forgetting the beautiful beaches of golden sand. Please do not be put off coming to Newquay I guarantee you will all enjoy it.
