Car Park Charges

We have just visited Polperro (Thusday 5th April 2012), There is only one car park and the fees used to be reasonable. The minimum car park charge is now £4 for 3 hours. Nothing cheaper! Is this just for the Easter holidays and what do you find to do in Polperro for 3 hours?

A far as I'm aware, the car park isn't patrolled and there certainly aren't any clamping warning signs but again, I can check on Thursday.

Have just spent the new year in Polperro which is magical. Arrived at dusk wanting to purchase a 4 day ticket for £24 but you can only use coins in the machine and all the change machines are locked up, an absolute farce! Had to park elsewhere for the night and come back to find an attendand the next morning. Other drivers were coming to park for the new year and unable to get change and pay to park, making them late for booked tables in restaraunts. A complete joke!

How sad to see how polperro is suffering, it is such a beautiful place lovely Cornish people

All at the hands of a GREEDY car park owner who we had the misfortune to meet

we are elderly disabled people who use a motor home for medical reasons

As we entered car park we were told £7.50 for 3hrs minimum were told to park at top of car park

despite being a blue badge excempt disc holder. We asked could we park in a disable bay

Answer no how obliging he was. NOT

Sadly we were one of many who turned away and went to Looe then on to Hanafore

We stay at a lovely private lodge at Killigarth on the terrace.free parking

Cliff walk to polperro is stunning then catch tram back up hill to Killigarth even a taxi would be cheaper.

Please come to polperro as it is luverly place to visit, sadly we have been discriminated against by greed

As we are unable to walk far.we find £7.50 extortionate for a few hrs.

Polperro council wake up and find another alternative way for us to visit this beautiful fishing village

with all it's charm to give to one and all before it is to late,

when you wonder why visitor numbers fall even more, business falling.

Unfortunately, the local council are powerless to act - the car park is privately owned which gives the owner the right ( if that's the correct word) to set his own conditions. Scandalous though that he wouldn't let you park in a disabled bay, not much point in providing them if you can't use them really, and I bet the car park was nothing like full or even half full. It's rules for rules' sake and sooner than later, he will come a cropper.

Local businesses have appealed to his better nature but unfortunately, he seems deaf to their pleas and definitely doesn't possess a better nature. As said previously, once he's driven all the visitors from the village and no one wants to pay to park there anymore, he'll be the one whining about his business.

What a complete git this greedy man must be if he has no shred of responsibilty for the future of this beautiful village. I'm afraid we are amongst the many FORMER visitors of Polperro who won't be lining his pockets in the future. Sorry that this will only add to the woes of the businesses there - but times are hard all over.......I'm not prepared to pay £4 for a quick mooch round the village or a quick drink in one of your lovely pubs.

Clamping on private land is illegal, although he can close the barrier to stop you gettting out. However that would stop others getting in so he would lose out. He can take you to court but all they would award him is any loss. ie the parking fee he did not earn because you had occupied a space. Also the parking contract is with the driver and the owner is under no obligation to say who that was.

On the whole private parking relies on the driver not knowing the law.

There are no clamping signs Amos and as far as I'm aware, clamps aren't used in the car park. But as you say, the owner does rely upon car owners not being certain of the legalities of it all.

GBfromDevizes as Amos H has pointed out clamping on private land is illegal so I would imagine that is why there are no signs
