London to Bantham Beach - halfway hotel/b&b?

My boyfriend and I are driving down to Bantham Beach for a long weekend on Thursday 23rd July.

We'd like to spend the Thursday night in a hotel/b&b halfway from NW London (I won't finish work till 5pm so didn't want to do the wole drive that evening)but I'm not sure where would be the best place to stop.

Please can you help with suggestions of where to stay?

It would be nice to get somewhere a little romantic... our first weekend away together, but we also don't want to break the bank.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks, Ann

First of all you'll need to tell everybody which way you'll be going - M4/M5 or M3/A303.

In either case it may be worth you posting this on the Somerset forum as well as both routes pass through that county.

Thanks Walt. Will do.

We hadn't even thought about which way we'd drive down yet.... also didn't realise there were two options.

Is one route more scenic/a shorter journey time?
