Open top bus tour around Lynmouth

We'll be staying in Lynmouth the first week of September. Does anyone know of a reputable open top bus tour company in that area of Devon? We have a rental car, but would like it if we could both sit back and enjoy the views. This would not be to get from one place to another but rather for an enjoyable ride to take in pretty scenery. Thank you!

There was an open top bus travelling across the coastal Exmoor to Porlock/Minehead. It is hugely popular with visitors and locals alike because of the beautiful scenery but currently has been delayed running due to grants. I understand it should be going. I'll check and post what I find out. The service is currently running a single decker service. www.quantockmotorservices.co.uk/300.300X.pdf

Also running to Ilfracombe giving 2hrs. Though you could just catch a bus back if you wanted more time.

There are also Exmoor Safaris where you go by Land Rover right into the heart of the moor to see wildlife & villages. They are very good.

Local buses will be running a good timetable in September to take you exploring.

And there is the Moor Rover which you may be interested in as you can choose your destination exploremoor.co.uk/public-transport/moor-rover

Hello! The open top bus from Minehead to Lynmouth has to be a contender for best bus ride in England, so I hope it gets running soon.

It is - or at least has been in previous years - possible to get an open top circular tour, with commentary, from Minehead to Dunster and over the moor. Fabulous!

I forgot to mention that as a day doing both which would be a great journey around Exmoor or tacking the steam train onto the bus ride would be a lovely way to see the countryside with the option to drop off somewhere. But it is Somerset rather than Devon.

I haven't seen the double decker yet and it;s hard to miss, but did hear that they had the grant. However being late maybe the drivers and conductors had to take other work and it is specialised.

Alpine, don't forget that Lynton has a small but perfect cinema with dolby sound and the latest films. There is a tapas resturant opposite.

And the walk to Watersmeet shouldn't be missed. From Rockford is the best but you can go upriver from Lynmouth.

Thank you so much for your helpful advice. I'll look into all the things you've mentioned. We'll be in Somerset as well because we're travelling from Bath to Lynmouth. I can't wait to go to England! Thanks again!

Sadly the double decker that used to operate service 300 has been sold and replaced by a partially open top single decker - see http://flic.kr/p/edHcAY .

Apparently the double decker was hitting too many trees.

Well that's a pity as the view from the top was something else, but I supposed a single decker is better than nothing. Doubtless easier to get up Porlock Hill, which must have required nerves of steel in the driver

I needed nerves of steel too. I was so busy last time pointing out things to a group there that I got hit by a tree and cut across the face so I can understand it.

Shame they are not running the 2 buses (including the Exmoor one) but their other is still there.

The good news is that they are now accepting Senior bus passes. Initially they were not as was stated in the Exmoor tourist paper but they have recently agreed. Looks like I'll be off to Lynmouth later this week. ;-)
