Charmouth

We have a 3 day break coming up at the beginning of Feb. We have booked to stay in Charmouth, but am a bit worried it might be a bit lacking in places to go to eat. Can anyone tell me whether or not there are nice places to go in the evenings?

Thank you

Mia

Hi Mia,

there are quite a few places to eat in Lyme Regis but the best food & drink is served at the Alexandra Hotel, I absolutely adore the place:

I have also eaten very decent food at the Royal Standard, a nice old-fashioned pub by the Cobb:

25 Marine Parade, Lyme Regis, 0871 917 0007

There is an Italian restaurant but I am not sure if they are open out of season:

Antonio's Trattoria - 7 Church St , Lyme Regis - 0871 7144427

And there is a relatively new restaurant (opened in June last year ) that I have not tried yet bu their menu looks good:

Hope this helps, have a lovely time!

Kind regards,

Karen

I thought I had already replied to you so this may appear twice.....

Thank you for getting back to me. I have made a note of the places you recommend in Lyme Regis. We were hoping though that there would be some nice places to eat in Charmouth so we could both have a drink and not worry about the car, especially if it is bad weather.

Are there no places to eat in Charmouth itself?

Sorry, must have misread your message. Although I have spent quite some time in this area I have never gone out for a meal in Charmouth. Hopefully someone else can advise you. If you are worried about driving etc. you can always take a taxi, Lyme Regis is only 3 or 4 miles from Charmouth.

I know this is an old thread but it might help somebody else to know that food is available now from the Royal Oak Inn at the top of the village.

Re : The Hix Oyster and Fish House Lyme Regis. We went here for a meal last December , drove all the way from Devon to meet friends for Lunch . An expensive and disappointing lunch it was too !! Probably one of the worst meals I have ever had - maybe we were just unlucky !!

I know this is an old post, but if anyone else wants this information, there is a great place to eat (and stay) in Charmouth, called the Abbotts House

about £25 for 3 courses, really high end food, and great hosts. If you are looking for something cheap n cheerful the George Pub opposite is fine, home made steak pie etc.

I ate at the Royal Oak last week - food was OK but took about an hour to arrive, so don't get there too late!
