We spent last weekend in Charmouth and we could only find two pubs in the actual village. We ate at The George and the food was fine, usual stuff, very nice, great service. We noticed a couple of pubs on the bus ride between Charmouth and Axminster, one was the Talbot Arms at Uplyme and the other The Mariners just outside Lyme Regis. If we had been staying longer we would definitely have tried these at some time but whether or not they are child friendly, I don't know. We had a great Sunday roast at the Royal Standard in Lyme Regis, we sat out as the weather was good and there were children and babies there, other food looked just as good.
We were there last weekend and ate and drsank in the Royal Oak. It looks, from the outside, more like the 'locals' pub - the George being the tourist one.
Do not be fooled. Superb food, superb beer and very friendly staff (did not meet owners as they were away).
I thouroughly recommend it to all.
