Father Christmas!

Hi,

we are staying in Suffolk over the hoildays and would like to ask if people have any recommendations for a visit to see Father Christmas. We have a 2 year old who has spoken of nothing else for the past 6 weeks and we would really like to take him to see the best Christmas event/exhibit in the area. Ideally we would be looking for something a little better than the standard Department Store type experience. Maybe a Stately Home or Christmas Fayre, that type of thing. We will have a car and consequently are able to drive, weather permitting. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Suffolk is a pretty big county - where abouts are you staying?

Kentwell Hall's Christmas Fayre might be what you are looking for?

It also has the advantage of being in Long Melford which is a lovely village with lots of antique shops to explore. Plus it's very close to Lavenham which is a beautiful and very picturesque little medieval town.

Long Melford and Lavenham both have huge 'wool' churches which might well be decked out for Christmas with a crib etc which your child might enjoy.

Try Lavenham Christmas Fayre. Old of the most picturesque villages in the county. They are having their fayre and lights switch on, on Friday 10th December and continue all day into Saturday 11th December.

Another great and different idea is to visit the Mid Suffolk Light Railway. I have copied and pasted the information below for you.

This is a very special event where you can take a short steam train ride to the North Pole Halt and visit Santa for a special gift. The inclusive price includes refreshments, train ride and children's entertainment. This is a personalised event as all gifts for children are suitable for their age.

£8.00 per person. Booking is essential for this event. Please contact the Mid Suffolk Light Railway on 01449 890622 or visit www.mslr.org.uk

There is also an adult only steam ride where participants travel first class with on board Christmas Fare.

There was a Christmas Fayre in Bury SE but that's gone. Jimmys Farm near Ipswich has one this coming weekend
