very subjective, but i'll go with Bankers in Western Rd.

The place on the pier serves a good fish n chips too, and my kids love Harry Ramsdens (but its pricey). Have tried Bardleys before and it was ok.

The Regency on the seafront gets rave reviews (I havent been for years so i cant rate it).

I want to go to Loves for Pollock & Chips!

As Bo said above, for 'simple' chish n fips you can't beat Bankers in Western Road.

Bardsleys is also nice but not as good as it used to be with the new owners/staff in situ.

Loves is very nice but probably a tad too upmarket to be child friendly.

I had a bad experience at Harry Ramsdens so can't recommend that one I'm afraid!

I still think Regency deserves to be up there, it's not quite as good as it was, but very good fish still.

On a sunny day it's a nice place to chill out on an outside table, it's child friendly and has a huge menu so you can have lobster or seaffood platter while the kids eat F & C.

For a while I stopped going, but then returned one sunny day and realised how much I'd missed it. As soon as the sun comes out, I'll be sitting outside with some calamari and a bottle of Vina Sol :-)

Stoofer.

I second Bankers too, also because it's clean and spacious inside, unlike a lot of other 'chippies'.

Is Barnsleys the one in Baker Street? If it is, I tried to go a while ago but, believe it or not, my friend and I were turned away because we didn't have a booking! In a fish and chips shop! Guess what, we went straight to Bankers and never looked back?

Bankers for me too. I used to go to Bardsleys but since you can't take your own wine there now and the owner was quite rude when we turned up with wine because we did not know-we stopped going.

Bardsleys near The Level has always been the best quality fish and chips in Brighton and still is - contrary to previous posts they do not have new owners/managers, it is still run by Roy, Muriel and their son Neil. They have expanded the dining area and added a bar (hence no more byo bottle, but prices very reasonable) and are very popular, hence need to book for eating in on busy nights, say, Friday?? It only suffers a bit from being a bit out of the way for day trippers, not being on the seafront or near the station - but it's by far the very best!
