getting around cotswolds and stratford upon avon.

Hi everyone,

My friend and I are planning a daytrip to cotswolds from London. were going to take the train to moreton in marsh and go from there and we would like to know if

a. bibury, the slaughters are within walking distance from there? where else should we go? chipping campden looks interesting too!

b. is it possible to walk all the way to stratford?

we're two students on a budget and were trying to minimize our transportation costs and would be grateful for all suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

The Cotswolds are probably bigger than you think.

www.theaa.com has a good journey planner.

Moreton in Marsh to Lower slaughter is about 7 miles, with Bibury about another 12 miles. MiM to Stratford is about 18 miles.

However, you could do any number of shorter walks to say, Kingham and re-connect with the train if you want to do a day trip. There are so many beautiful villages in the Cotswolds. I wouldn't restrict yourself to one or two of the honeypots.

You could catch the No: 22 bus from Moreton which stops off in Chipping Campden on its way to Stratford upon Avon, - so, - you could plan a whistlestop tour of both places, - returning by bus to Moreton later on in the day for your train home. -This bus route is very regular and reliable.

- Chipping Campden & Stratford are very different places, depending on your interests! - Chipping Campden will be a much slower pace of life, & expect Stratford to be busy. - * Tuesday is market day in Moreton just out of interest.

If you only have a day in mind, - I wouldn't recommend you walking anywhere other than from the bus stop to the nearest pub for lunch! (or maybe the Butty Hut in Chipping Campden for low budgets! - and maybe sit in the Market Hall and watch the world go by.......).

If it's a day trip you really don't have time to do more than one of those places, particularly if you plan doing some of it on foot.

Chipping Camden (by bus) is one possibility as suggested.

Or you could fit in Stow, Bourton and the Slaughters with a mixture of buses and walking

Bibury is too far - if you really want to do it it's best approached from Cirencester rather than Moreton. National Express run there from London.

If you take bus No 22 make sure it is the one passing Broadway too.

Pulhams bus 801 which go from Moreton On Marsh to Bourton On water passing the Slaughters. From there the Slaughters walk ( lower and upper) is about 2-3 miles.
