Visiting Highgrove without a car

We have a booking for 5 of us at Highgrove and are wondering how feasible it would be to travel by train. I gather we cannot go to the restaurant at Highgrove before our tour, so if we took a taxi from Kemble to Tetbury for lunch and a wander round the town, how would we then get to Highgrove for our afternoon tour?

Also, any suggestions for where to get lunch in Tetbury?

There are buses that run from Kemble to Tetbury and from Tetbury past the gates of Highgrove House, but they are very infrequent and so unlikely to fit in well with your tour times (it is also a long walk from the bus stop on the road outside Highgrove to the house & gardens itself).

Therefore as there are 5 of you, it might be better to hire a large taxi for the day because you are unlikely to find any of that size hanging around at either Kemble Station or in Tetbury. Try...

You don't mention a budget or what kind of food you're looking for, but have a look at the Snooty Fox.

Highgrove is only a mile outside of Tetbury and there's pavement all the way. Why not walk?

You could try the Royal Oak for lunch.

I travelled by public transport from London. I got the train to Kemble and the bus from Kemble to Tetbury and then a bus from Tetbury to Highgrove. It is worthwhile knowing that the bus in Tetbury leaves from the same side it drops you off and not from the opposite side of the road.
