Portsmouth - early morning ferry arrival

Hello --

I'm taking the overnight ferry from Caen in July and was hoping for suggestions on how to fill the gap between the 7 am arrival and the 10 am opening of the HMS Victory museum, which I'd like to see before heading via train to London.

Also -- other travellers would like to see Stonehenge or Avebury on the way in, from Portsmouth to London [I have to meet the apartment greeter]. Can anyone suggest a good company or train route?

Thanks!

The only thing close to the Continental Ferry Port is the Cascades Shopping Centre and Commercial Rd shops but most of these won't start opening until 9 o clock.

"Also -- other travellers would like to see Stonehenge or Avebury on the way in, from Portsmouth to London". You do realise that Stonehenge/Avebury are not on the way from Portsmouth to London, Stonehenge is just over 60 miles west of Portsmouth.

Regards.

Hello --

Thanks, I was afraid there wouldn't be much open when we arrived. Perhaps we can find a coffee shop.

Yes, I know it's not directly on the way, but they won't have time to take a day trip out of London once there.

Thanks-

Visiting Victory before traveling to London would be quite easy since Portsmouth Harbour station is only a short walk for the Dockyard.

Going via Stonehenge is also feasible though would take a while. Trains from Portsmouth to Salisbury

run once an hour and take about 1:15, and there is a bus to Stonehenge from the station (also visits Old Sarum and Avebury). Salisbury to London take about 1:30)

However for both Victory and Stonhenge you would need to consider what to do with your luggage whilst touring. Neither Portsmouth Harbour or Salisbury stations have left luggage facilities.
