What time of the year is your visit, and what are your interests? Southampton is a vibrant City with lots of shops and places to lunch, as well as the old City walls if you have not seen it this website may help with some ideas http://www.discoversouthampton.co.uk/. The New Forest is also lovely, especially if the weather is good with wild ponies roming. This website is very good. http://www.thenewforest.co.uk/. You may find the cruise ship arranges something.

Cruise ships usually have tours going to stonehenge, though it is possible to get there yourself (train to Salisbury, tour bus to stones).

Southampton is average town UK and not very touristy. It does have a museum about Titanic. Not sure that is what you want if you are on a cruise!

If you like nature then definitely the New Forest is a good idea (train to Brockenhurst only 10mins away and there is an open top tour bus in summer. Otherwise hire car).

If you would prefer a historic city try Winchester. Especially for Jane Austen fans.

There are several museums in the city, the QE2 mile walk as well as a good art gallery

Hi,

We are docking in Southhampton for approx. 12 hours and would like to hire a guide to take us (2) to Stonehenge and other highlights places along the way.

The ship does not seem to be offering such a tour.

Has anyone hired a private guide to do so and what was the approx. cost involved.

Thanks so much.
