Steep hills

Hi,

A bit of a random question, but we've got an old car that tends to struggle up steep hills. we are looking at booking a holiday in Shanklin, is this a bad idea? Do we have to drive up the steep hills or are there ways around them?

Thanks

Assuming you are not joking.

You probably shouldnt book a hotel on Shanklin seafront. .......or in Ventnor

Most of the island can be navigated avoiding the steep hills. In your situation you need to avoid Shanklin Esplanade, Ventnor Esplanade, Cowleaze Hill ( A3055) between Shanklin and Ventnor. probably Brading Down Road.

If it's just that your car goes slowly up hills, thyen I wouldn't worry to much as you'll probably be following a coach or a bus anyway. ;-)

Thanks, it may well be that it just goes very slowly, I'm sure we'll cope fine. Thanks again for the advice. Once we are there we'll probably just explore most of the island either by public transport or foot anyway.

Lisa we love the bus on IOW, they are mostly double decker and if you can get upstairs and at the front the views are great, lovely lazy way to see the island. You can get pretty well anywhere with just two buses.

The only single decker we found was the one into Cowes, that is worth it for the turn into the passenger ferry terminal.
