thinking of staying at Dartford Hilton. travel questions

I am looking to use some hilton points, and am considering staying at the Dartford Hilton. We are a family of 4, with two 10 year olds. I have been to London many times, but it is the first for my children. We are not planning on seeing "everything" in London, just a quick trip on our way from Paris to Scotland to see friends. We will be spending only two nights, and plan to see the Tower, Parliment area, Buckingham Palace, but not much else.

We will be arriving by Eurostar, and traveling on Brit Rail passes to Edinburgh. If I stay at the Dartford Hilton, is there a nearby train into London? Is it easy to get to our train to Edinburgh (I think it is Kings Cross station, right?) Or, is there a better suburb for our transportation plans? The Hiltons in the city are many more points.

Thank you!

What about Park Plaza River bank? It looks very nice, but is it any more convenient to Kings Cross or less?

The Park Plaza Riverbank is not the greatest location in terms of classiness or accessibility but it's paradise compared to Dartford! For a two night stay you'd be fine and if you can wangle a room with a river view it would be great as you'll probably be able to see the Houses of Parliament from your window.

From Kings Cross/St Pancras it's a simple, direct journey on the Victoria (underground) Line straight through to Vauxhall (pronounced vox-all) and a 10 minute walk from there. Alternatively a taxi from St Pancras will cost about £20.

10 minutes walk in the other direction from your hotel gets you to Waterloo which is a transport hub and has excellent connections to most of central London. Or keep going past Waterloo towards the South Bank, the Oxo Tower, Tate Modern and the Millennium Bridge for one of the finest walks in London.

PS If you do stay in Vauxhall, it might interest you to know that the place gives its name to the Russian word for railway station. Google it to find out more.

We just got back. We did stay in Dartford, and it worked well. Arrived at 5 in the evening from paris, taxi to hotel was easy and convenient. Free wifi, breakfast and meals for the kids helped keep total spent on the trip down. Taxi was easily arranged in the morning to Dartford station. Round trip was £24 for 4 of us into London with family and friends pass. Taxi to Ebbsfleet for express to st. Pancras was good too. Kids enjoyed the pool at the hotel. Food was great. Service was great. We toured the tower, took a boat to Westminster, walked to Buckingham palace. Train from Victoria back to Dartford worked well. Thanks for all the suggestions. Had a great short visit to London
