Canterbury on New Years Day

I am thinking of doing a day trip to Canterbury on New Year's Day.

Would most attractions and shops be opened? Or will they be closed?

Hi Kev&Family,

Places will be open but with shorter opening hours.

For example, the cathedral website states a 2pm closure:

canterbury-cathedral.org/category/closure/

After this time you'll be able to wander the precincts for free, as was the case today.

Another example, The Beaney website states a 12:00-17:00 opening http://www.canterbury.co.uk/beaney/

Most shops should be open although not until around 11am or 12 noon. Not sure about the independent traders but for chain shops in the Whitefriars centre there is a pdf guide: whitefriars-canterbury.co.uk/images/dynamicI…

Already noticed a discrepancy though as this shows Fenwick will be closed but the Fenwick website shows it will be open 12:00-17:00 fenwick.co.uk/canterbury/canterbury-holiday-…

You're welcome. I still recommend checking directly with anywhere specific you want to see. Please be aware St Augustine's Abbey is not open on weekdays or bank holidays during the winter so that will be closed, but you can see it through the railings. I've also noticed the Franciscan Gardens has been closed until Spring too (probably very waterlogged).
