Lakes District In Late September

My wife and I want to visit the Lakes District in late September, staying 1 night in Windermere on Saturday 27th and 1 night possibly in Keswick, or thereabouts, on Sunday 28th.

My query is, would we have to pre-book accommodation for that time of the year especially considering it being on a weekend?

Will we be running into a holiday weekend or school holidays that may make it difficult to find somewhere if we just checked the day before or even just looked around once we got there?

No school holidays or holiday weekends at that time of year, but, some places only accept bookings for a minimum of 2 nights. The best thing maybe for you to do is look on this website for hotels/b&b's then check out their websites for further info. Have a good weekend, enjoy the glorious scenery.

September & October are still the busy season in the Lakes - due to those people who can avoid school holidays taking their breaks then, also the weather can be lovely at that time of year. Nearly all accommodation providers will require a 2 night minimum stay at weekends.

Have a look at www.golakes.co.uk, which is the Cumbria Tourist Board website, for accomm options.

we were in the lakes last october and we commented that none of the hotels or b&b seemed to have vacancys from their boards outside.

It was not a holiday weekend either.

Try a Youth Hostel, no longer just for "youth" abd some are quite smart!

Would definitely pre book accommodation, this is a popular time of the year with the autumn colours. You might like to stay in Borrowdale rather than Keswick itself, it is really beautiful.

Would strongly recommend staying at the White House in Bowness, it is a 2 minute stroll to the lake and the same to the shops.Yes it is better to book in advance but you should still get somewhere to stay.
