No way of knowing. Our weather forecasters can't get tomorrow's weather right let alone May's.

Can be raining, misty, sunny or freezing. And it could be totally different in the afternoon.

Temperatures between 3c and 27c.

Sorry to be so vague but it's one of those unanswerable questions :-)

Lake District weather makes London weather look predictable.

But expect rain and wind - as well as sun, calm, miserable grey days that sap your soul, plagues of frogs, etc etc

The Lake District is known to get a lot more rain than most other places . In May 2009 the first weekend was glorious I remember as we had a party and everyone was sat outside for my husbands birthday .By the 2nd weekend we were having frosts at night and for 2 -3 weeks it was very miserable with rain and wind. My best advice is to take with you layers of clothes with a thin water proof coat which you can wrap up and put in your bag should you get a lot of rain.

If you're lucky - idyllic still early summer sunshine. May/June give you the best odds for a really good spell. However prepare for the worst. If you're unlucky it won't stop raining. It might be warm and wet. It might be cold and near wintry. It might be any combination of the above. It might change between them from minute to minute.

So don't forget to pack, swimwear, sun cream and light clothes, waterproofs and boots, warm clothes, hat and gloves...and good luck.

In your favour, Penrith and the North East get less rain than the west of the District.

Good luck.
