If you havent been before - Keswick. area.

You dont say when you are planning to visit ? Or what you are interested in doing ?

Keswick is very busy with the "Convention" until the 5th August so accommodation in Keswick at present may be a problem.

Try ringing round the hotels or consider staying just outside Keswick say Borrowdale.

Its the guest houses , B&B's and holiday cottages which get very full during "The Convention".

Somewhere Northern would suit best as you're travelling on up north to Scotland. If you strugle for Keswick accomadation wise I'd consider somwehere in the Ulswater area or even Penrith if you'll have a car to get around. These options offer quick and easy access to the M6 to get you further up North.

One of the "nice" things about the Lake District (if you are travelling up to Scotland) is that you can come OFF the motorway South of the Lake District, drive THROUGH the lake district (via say Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick) and then rejoin the motorway North of Keswick.

This is not a journey to do if you are in a hurry, as it can add more than an hour to your journey, but if you have the time it is a nice way to "see" the Lake District for a first time visitor.

And if you have NOT got accomodation yet you can stop at Winderemere and ask the tourist information centre to find you a place (it is right next to the train station).

If they have not got one you can the do the same at Ambleside, then again at Keswick.

I am pretty certain one of those three places will find you somewhere to stay.

Try getting in touch with Destination Cumbria or the Lakes Adventure Partnership. The guys run a website that the outdoor operators list their available trips on. www.lakesap.co.uk.

You may find something for the weekend you are there.
