Which waterfall is prettiest

We'll be in the Lake District for one full day in mid-May. I'm wondering which waterfall will be the prettiest and worth a short stop/detour: Ambleside, Aira Force, Lodore Falls or something else?

Aira Force and High Force (the latter is higher up the same path) would be my favourite but I'd also say Stockghyll (which I assume is where you mean when you say Ambleside) is lovely, and if visiting Ambleside is definitely worth a walk up.

Where are you heading for the rest of the day? Aira Force is lovely but is somewhat out the way for many people's itinery and Stockghyll is likely to be easier in terms of route/time

Lodore is overated in my view

Aira Force is pretty hard to beat. It also has the advantage of getting you to visit Ullswater, which IMHO is the most scenic lake in the Lake District.
